Hi I'm a makeup artist from Southern Cali.

I can definitely help you with this one.

I HIGHLY recommend using MAC'S "iridescent pressed powder" (in BELIGHTFUL--that's the color), unless you have either very yellow or very dark skin.

Whether you are using a cream or powder base, you apply the product (with a loose bristle brush--your blush or powder brush should work just fine) on top, to the parts of your face that light would typically hit. (I apply to the bridge of my nose, cheekbones, apples of my cheeks, and chin. Avoid the forehead as it tends to make the face look shiny as opposed to glowy).

As far as the benefit high beam is concerned, because it is a liquid, it is a bit trickier to apply because it it less blendable and therefore less forgiving.

I'm not familiar with Benefit, but I used to sell Mark Kay Cosmetics.. My present make up is Bare Escentuals and I love that it is natural and light.

I was always told that highlighter should be applied where the sun would "kiss" your face. (cheeks, bridge of nose, forehead, chin & don't forget the tips of your ears and shoulders!!)

If I am understanding you correctly, highlighter you are speaking about is NOT blush. Blush should be applied to the apples of your cheeks. (Smile hard and apply to the center of the roundest part of your checks, blending well - a little goes a long way!!) You can also use blush on your jawline and at your temples for a more sculpted look, but use sparingly and blend well - no lines!!)

Go for matte, no glossy, makes you look sluttish. Start with a good brand like Helen Curtis or L'oreal, it should be applied on a clean, dry skin, moisture ruins it, it is usually applied under foundation.
