Your "grandpa" was right.

But I do not know why he made this statement.

I hope it is not too late to ask him, may be he did not tell you because you were too young to understand.

I say the secrets should be kept secret. You must not disclose them period.

At one time it was a belief that women cannot keep secrets, I do not thing it was ever true but it is true that most people men/women have difficult time keeping a secret.

Sooner or later it slips out or they slip up.

Most of the people who write poor English, are attempting to write a foreign language for the first time. They are like baby learning to speak, but they have to write in this forum, so we should give them credit for trying.

Only way you can learn and master the language is to try, so please do not give up.

By all means correct them, instruct them, but do not discourage them with harsh comments.

Do you understand it batter? First thing I did was to type this in word. In word you can check spellings and grammar. Then I brought it here in the answer block. If you look at top right corner of this block you will see it says,check spelling, you can use that also, but it does not check grammar.
