Do you see a difference between helping and doing? If so, what is the difference. If not, how are they the same?

I probably picked the wrong verb to compare to "help"... I'm trying to get an idea of how people feel about the concepts of assisting someone and just doing something for someone else...and whether or not there's a *perceived* difference. Thanks for all of your answers!!! Great stuff!

A little more clarification... this stems from my belief in the old addage --

Give a man a fish, and he eats for a day.
Teach a man to fish, and he eats for a lifetime.

The only difference I can see is that helping you do because that is your choice and doing is the actual act of the helping' or something that needs to be done.

Helping is different only by the term... assisting. Other than that it's the same thing.

helping is when u invest time in aiding someone to get something they need to get done completed. u help with bits and pieces...not the entire thing. and normally it's nice if the person who asked for the help is around and does some things themself. doing is the act of completing a task at hand.

Helping means that I won't drive you to your appointment, but I'll give you bus fare to get to your appointment. Enable means I won't drive you to the crack house to buy crack, but I'll give you the money for the crack so you won't have to prostitute.
