There are four players per team. In national and international play there is also a fifth person that stands by, incase someone gets hurt or needs a break.

nowadays though the skip does not always thow the last stones.

Totally depends on the type of curling you are playing. Like basically everyone else said, you need a lead, second, vice, and skip. (or first, second, third, and fourth, though the former is proper terms). YES, that is true. FOr basic curling you do need 4 players. BUT, if you are i highly competitive team, you will probably have 5, the basic 4 PLUS a spare. And the last exception i can think of right now, is if you are playing Scotch Doubles, or just doubles. My brother and his lead were in a bonspiel for Scotch Doubles, and it's fascinating! You only can have 2 players for that! SO, basically, what I'm assuming the answer you're looking for is 4. BUt you can also have 5 or 2! Hope I helped!

They're are actually 5 players needed, you must carry at least one spare in case someone slips on the ice and can't continue to play.
