there are diferent reasons why people are long term dole they lost a job and live in an area where theres a job shortage they are demoralised by their lot.and work pays no better than no work.
or just lazy.some of them spend hours in front of the \t.v getting brainwashed into feeling useless because they are not famous,
they see the actor get fantastic wages for pretending to be somebody they are not, the riches and glory of the man who kicks the ball up and down a field, he dose not want to do order picking for a fiver an hour, he wants an order picking contract for at least five million a year, i know that sounds like a joke but it would have more true value than pretending to be somebody you are not. Here is the answer.give a man a job, it might be say 6£ ph
he may clear £225, he gets to keep his dole money which might be say between 60 to 120 £ depending, that gives him the enough after one year to start his own company, he might buy a good second hand coach or taxi or a lorry with his name on the side. this lifts up his spirit and his pride after 18 mounth he has e-mployed a second worker and he is paying to the coffers instead of drawring out.he no longer needs dole. if there was a war and the town had to be defended and one had to buy ones own amunition, the gov would be giving the poor millions to but tanks to defend the town. the poor are victims of economic warfare.

I agree with Dave on the subject of National Service - that's a definate for the 16 to 25 age group. However, I am down with the Victorians when it comes to the work-shy generally. Incarcerate them in institutions where they have to do pointless, repetitive tasks for bread and board. Separate men and women so no further chav breeding takes place, and make the whole experience uncomfortable enough, so that they would prefer to get off their **** and take whatever job presents. Do not reward repeat teen pregnancy, do not accept feral children running amok on estates, and do not let the little loves starve (like they would - they all seem to have plenty of taxpayers money for fags and burgers). I think that would be fair. I did once have to go to the job centre myself, having moved from another part of the country and needing work quickly. I said I would take anything I could do, even though I have qualifications - and the woman I spoke to couldn't believe her ears! She had never heard that one before. I went out with the prospect of a job to at least tide me over till something more interesting came along, and left behind me a long queue of fat bellied, coke snorting misfits who just wanted their dole money, various kids by an assortment of different fathers in tow. God, what a tribe!!!

My My My!!!!!! What a cold, mean-spirited, hard-hearted you lot are (or most of you). You have all assumed (or most of you) that they haven't worked or aren't working solely as a result of an active, conscious, overt decision to do so and that they have been collecting social assistance whilst doing so. You ignore the possibility that they may not be collecting social assistance and, more importantly and more to the point, they may well be in their situation as a result of means not of their own making. I think it would be a terrible waste of skill, talent, education, training, etc., etc., etc., not just for the people in question but for society at large to unilaterally make people pick up dog-poo. Why not survey (poll, test, assess) them to see what talents, skills, education, training, experience they have, enter that into a database and then when a suitable position becomes available, match them up. All employers should be compelled by law to post all positions to this database in addition to whatever other websites and/or newspapers they choose to post to. If a company is receiving some kind of government business grant, they should be required to hire exclusively from this database unless they can conclusively demonstrate the skill-set, training, education, experience, etc. they require is not on the database. Think before you speak, people. Maybe one of these days, it will be YOU who is forced to pick up dog poo.

I think "they" (whoever they are ) should give them your job , then you could get your tax back . P.S If you have ever been thrown out of work you would be a bit more understanding of their plight . (ok , ok , there will always be some who wont have work at any price but don't tar everyone with the same brush , you might yet end up drawing the dole )

Yes becuase they all choose to live that way don't they? Don't be so prejudice! What if you or a close family member lost their job and had to claim Job Seeker's Allowance? It is wrong to assume everyone on the Allowance is sitting around enjoying a chosen luxury. Lots of them do get casual work because permenant work is hard to get. I hope you never loose your job and learn the hard way but I do hope you loose your appauling attitude!

Find out what has stopped him and train him to be confident in tackling life.
A lot of these people lack help in subjects that are embarrassing to them, like reading for instance.
I certainly would not punish the person for wanting to work.
Dave above me.

I agree. The dole money should be an emergency benefit for those looking for a job and limited to maybe no more than two months. After that the person should have to take any suitable job going eg shop work etc.

what a bunch of cynical replies, most people can't get jobs because under qualified or over qualified, a very small percentage sit on there arses, and the neanderthal species is naturally lazy anyways, you should never ridicule other for there misfortunes, as as if the shoe was on other foot I'd guess your opinions would soon change.

Make them sit at computers answering Yahoo Questions all day. They'd soon rush back into work.

They should be forced to take any work that they can do. They should also have any mobile phones, designer gear, holiday homes, state of the art TV's/stereos and so on confiscated and auctioned off. The proceeds should then support them so they don't bum off the state.
