Who knows, who cares, however without a shadow of doubt American Football is the daftest most boring sport in the world. Big blokes in helmets crashing into each. Then someone runs 30 yards and has to have a sit down with a oxygen mask on. You got to laugh.

It's supposed to block the sun (Helps in places like Miami!) and it's also used for it's look and ability to make people feel intimidated.

Some people have said to cut down on glare from the sun, this is close, but its actually to cut down on glare from floodlights in stadiums as they are extremely bright
