I've never understood why some people want to keep cats from using their flower beds for a litter box. Cat feces is totally different than a dog's and, as a result of their high protien metablism, their feces are almost pure nitrogen... the same stuff you pay good money to get in potting soil.
Leave the kitties alone and your flowers will thank you.

Cats hate marigolds, and this has been proven in my garden.
Try to have plants that spread quickly, cats like fresh soil to dig into.
Put a little bit of lemon juice/ or anything citric, by the flower beds, they really can't stand the smell, and it makes their eyes water.
You could always put down the wood bark chips, that is supposed to stop weeds aswell.
Plus if she catches the cat in her garden a little water sprayed at them will do them no harm.

I also have problems with cats.(not mine) I am always chasing them away.I think they know I do not like them so they use my garden as a litter box. I have tried moth balls but that is almost as bad as the smell of their "pooh." I have also used a powder that is bought at the garden centers but you need to reuse it every time i t rains or you water the grass. The best I have found to work is chicken wire.Lay it over the section were they seem to go the most. They do not like the feel of wire under their paws.

my pets used my flower beds as a toilet and play area, all I could think of was to plant cactus in any open spaces. I pulled a few needles from paws but not many and they quit even after we took some cactus out.

I have seen here on yahoo answers to use moth balls, also try using a big helping of powdered hot pepper. A friend of mine fought this for years she even tried cat pans and nothing helped.

If you put in a wooden type edge on the beds, it will deter the cats (like landscape timbers)

You might try putting moth balls in the ground. I know they keep away armadillos.
If I can be of further assistance, let me know.

Good luck with that one....it's like keeping mesquites from bitting you...sometimes you get the right stuff and other times, it doesn't matter what you use.

cayenne pepper works well. Not too much, just a light sprinkle.
