Mostly influence from the media and peers. Wearing makeup is what women are "supposed" to do. It makes you "grown up", just like all the movie stars and models. And it's "cool", so much so that in some cases, girls who don't wear makeup are looked upon as losers or less developed, by their peers. Sad world it is, really.
And of course, most young girls who wear makeup don't know how to apply it properly, or they think that more is better, and they wear way too much and then they just end up looking like fools.
And in the cases where young girls DO know how to apply makeup properly, and they DO look good, it just gets kinda creepy. I mean, there's something slightly unnerving about seeing a twelve year old girl dress in such a way that thirty year old men are turning their heads.

I agree about the young age, I started at 8 and seriously, I have no idea what the main reason why I did. But I still do, and I still love it.
However, I don't agree they look ugly. I think some look good, depending on how you apply your make up, some try so hard, and cake it on too much that, yes it looks bad, but make up to me throughout was to enhance my features.
It's hard to explain if you set your mind to think that make up makes people ugly, so I won't go into further detail.

I'm 14 and I wear makeup.. Pretty much everyone in highschool does so I think it's okay to wear it when you are 13 or 14.

i don't wear make up an i'm 14. i kinda have the natural look so i don't need it and when i do have make up on, i look terrible. i put moisturiser on so my skin looks healthy
in maybe a years time i will start putting foundation on at times
mascara and eye liner smudges and i have really bad hayfever!

i TRY not to, (im 12) but its so hard. i feel so ugly... actually i AM ugly comparred to everyone else, and i just cant help trying to do SOMETHING about me face

They want attention from the opposite sex. They see sex symbols wearing makeup.

well i'm 13 i don't and i agree i does look bad but i can't it always goes wrong so i dunoo sozzy
