First of all, your father can probably answer most of these questions. Which computer depends on your budget and the type of software (even types of games) you want to run on it.

As for DSL, you don't need a modem. Instead, you will need a wired or wireless network connection to the DSL box your father is using (DSL is shared in most homes). Again, ask your father for the details.

all you need to hook your computer up to dad's to use internet is a network cable...go to radio shack and ask for one...get a long one if you are in another room..they are pretty cheap[...chances are your dads computer came with a modem...with verizon dsl you are provided with an external modem...so once he has set up for internet, plug your network cable into his built in modem, set up a home network, and you can get on without having to have your own modem, or without you having to have a second dsl service....you do not need a router or wireless anything...i know because i currently have my laptop networked with my desktop because too many people at my house want the computer to go online

You can get a router, you plug the modem into the router, plug your Dad's computer into the router, plug your computer into the router. It can be wireless - a gizmo plugs into the router and its receiver plugs into your computer. About $80, router and receiver.

As far as a computer for games, it doesn't matter, as long as you have 1] at least 1 gig of ram and 2] a reasonably bad-*** video card - I would recommend a pci-e card with 256 ram. The processor should run at 2.2 gHz or more.

You'll need a router, which connects to the modem and splits the internet connection between multiple pc's. there's the wireless and wired variety. research it on here a bit

build your own pc if you know how, if not goto Charliedinomitedeals.com they can help you build one for you the way you want it.
If your dad has the web and a modem you will not need one just a wired net working hub or a wireless net working hub.

Get those Athlon processors with 2Ghz or more, then acquire a 256 or 512 Mb graphics card the better and 1024Gig memory and last a 7200rpm hard drive no matter what brands they are...

Athlons are respected for gaming, I myself use it.
