I am sick and tired of creeps seeking sympathy when they commit criminal offences.Just like I predicted,my. Foley came out yesterday and shamefully told us that he was molested as a teenager and he is an alchoholic.
It saddens me how our society falls for cheap excuses.
Mr Foley is a grown old man and if he cannot contain his urge, then he does not deserve to live.
This society has to rise up against this excuses of people being drunks, molested as kids and using mental problem to escape punishment. It is my belief that if you can decipher between killing yourself and killing someone else, then you deserve to be killied. How many out there are sick of these excuses? If you are not, then you are one of the creeps.

At 54 and a representative of the United States Government you don't have any excuses for a mental illness of any sort. Anyone that supports Mark Foley would be in the same denial and suffer from the same mental illness.

I am sick and tired of the same. Does the fact that someone was molested or that they are an alcoholic lessen their culpability(no)
As individuals we are responsible for our own choices. It is called personal responsibility. A government official (of all people) should be able to cop to their own mistakes, without muddying the water to garner sympathy or to lessen their transgressions.
But we see this everyday- the excuses just vary- I got the idea from a video game, I listened to rap music ( or heavy metal)- I was abused as a child - I was drunk or on dope-

The excuses for poor behavior are boundless
The people willing to accept these excuses are far too many and have way to much power.

Think about it- if someone or something else is responsible for every bad thing you do- doesn't logic stand to reason that outside forces are making you do good things as well.

you are right....but another thing that makes me sick is how suddenly this becomes a political issue. It's not. Not in any way. A person's desire for kids has nothing to do with their political views and I'm sick of people saying "oh it's the liberals" or "oh it's the republicans" SHUT UP ALREADY!!! Think about the kids for once and stop trying to pin crap on a particular party! And as for the "legal age" in DC - it doesn't matter which party is in charge of that particular area - it's not like that was established last week.

Bottom line is that Foley needs to be treated just like any other Joe Schmoe who did this. No going easy on him cause he drinks or was molested as a kid. Most people who are pedophiles had some sort of molestation in their childhoods....they don't get twisted because their parents didn't get them the bike they wanted for their 10th birthday.

Not only do they seek sympathy but suddenly they know that they have to check themselves into rehab! I for one am not buying it!

Being an alcoholic is not an excuse. Since alcohol usually just loosens up your inhibitions, to claim you propositioned children because you were drunk just means that you were too scared to do it somber, but you still wanted too! And the scarier part is that he would go into session and vote on laws/bills, etc that affect our country shortly after contacting these boys. So if he was drunk at those times too. Scary isn't it?

How can you be not guilty by reason of insanity? Anyone who takes another person's lie has to have a little looney tune playing at all times.

You were molested as a child? Then you know what it's like and should be one of the last people who'd want to inflict that on another!

So, yes! I'm sick of people using these excuses to get off!

I must admit I was pissed when I heard "but he was under the influence of alcohol when he sent those messages". IS THAT AN EXCUSE FOR POOR BEHAVIOR? Everyone has bad things in their past, some more than others, but once you are an adult, its time to show some personal responsibility. There ARE no excuses for what he's done. I'm sure there are plenty of other people out there just like him and I hope they are caught as well.

I am seriously worried about our society and the fact that many don't seem to have any sense of personal responsiblity and like to play VICTIM!

People, this is not a political discussion, but a moral one. Stay on point.

Never thought I might lend some support for a Republican who sends sexual emails to minors. We need to find out the facts of the situation before we condemn the guy. You are talking about killing him and there has been no due process.

Are you this tough on yourself. You will do things you will not be proud of, maybe not as bad as Foley, how will you punish yourself?

I agree. However, isn't it usually the liberals who claim people aren't responsible for their actions, because they were molested as a child?

By the way, the age of consent in D.C. is 16. If I'm not mistaken, D.C. state legislators are democrats.

I am sick of it from both parties, as well as the rest of our society. Every time anyone commits a crime, or does anything wrong, the excuses start.

Even with illegal immigration - how can we expect them to follow the laws - they are just trying to make a better life...they are so oppressed, they need to come here illegally...BS. They need to follow the laws, just like everyone else.

Take responsibility for you life and your actions and lose the excuses.

We need to clean out everyone in congress and start over with people who will work for legal Americans. They all make me sick.

Hey, and the worst of all, people voted for him and actually elected him to congress as the best man to do the job. Stupid repuglicans anyway.
