in an effort to colonize another planet, what 5 people (whose occupations depend on your survival) would you take with you, other than the pilot and yourself?

A doctor (general physician)
A geologist (knowing where potential water might be and what minerals can be used for creating a farm would be critical, working with the other scientists in the group, the geologist could optimize how to extract oxygen from certain rocks)
A biologist (someone who can optimize crop yields)
An engineer (electrical and structural) (building the structures will involve a great deal of understanding structural stresses)
The last one is tough. Some people feel that a psychologist would be critical. However, I think if everyone is kept busy, there won't be time to "breakdown".
So I'd have to go with a metalurgist (sp?). In other words a blacksmith. Somebody actually has to build the other stuff that is designed.
Writing a sci-fi book?

it is probably just as important to pick people with alot of genetic variation... 5 different ethnic backgrounds... else the resulting population would be too ingrown
someone who could tell good stories and jokes, artist, singer
agriculture? plants
animal husbantry
medicine
technology
someone inspiring also, record keeper, preacher

I dont know but for gods sake make sure they have no notion what religion is. Otherwise the insanity will live on.
