my computer just came back from the company and their is a physical combo drive there but it wont read the cd's. anyone know how to fix that?

It may be a defective drive. Try contacting the company who made the laptop and explain the problem to them. That could help.

If you uninstall it, you may need to reinstall the drivers. Do you have the install CD that comes with the drive? If not, and it doesn't work after uninstall and reboot, you will have to download and install the drivers for your particular unit. You can get almost all drivers here http://www.pcdrivers.com/
If you end up having to do this, you will have to know as much about the combo drive as you can (manufacturer, model no. at least -- that probably would be enough....some you will have to remove the computer case cover and maybe the unit itself to find these things....hopefully, you can get enough info from the outside front to get what you need).
Keep in mind, this is only if uninstall and reboot doesn't fix it. Hopefully, that will be enough. If not, you'll have to get the drivers.

Try:
....Uninstalling, and reinstalling the drivers.
....Trying different CDs, and DVDs
....Trying a different data cable the drive connects to
....Trying a different IDE port the drive connects to
...If all else fails you need a new drive
I fix computers for a living, and if a drive is bad, it's bad. Under warranty, swap it out. If the company screwed up, (it was working before they got it) then they need to fess up to it.

It could need a new driver - check the website of the manufacturer for a download,
Or it could be that the power cable isn't connected (that won't be the case if the little light is burning)
It could be that the data cable isn't connected - that happened to me once with a new PC.
And finally, it could be broken.
The fist 3 things you can solve yourself - if you're not afraid to open the case, that is.

hi it dont read any cd's at all not even music give the pc company a call they done something to it they have to fix that for free
