Too many different fins, too many advertisements. I need a set of personal dive gear already - Chief said the ScubaPRO Jetfin is one of the best fins around but they hurt my ankles. Any recommendations? Preferably something which doesn't break the bank.

I agree the Scubapro Jetfin is tough on the ankles, but some of the old timers swear by them. I recommend the Scubapro twin jet. If you only boat dive, go with the full foot, but if you also beach dive, go with the open heal. I used to work at a dive shop on Guam, and the twin jets were our best selling fin. We gave 100% money back guarantee that you would like them. Check them out on the web.

Try before you buy with some shop demos or rent. Don't base your decision in the pool, but in a "real world" dive, where you can test them out in current, getting them on and off and entry methods etc. Pool work doesn't come very close to what you'll deal with open water and I've yet to see a cattleboat bouncing around in a pool.
Recomendations? None. Fins are just like clothing, everyone has their preferences, kick style and budget. You need to discover yours.

A lot of shops have rental gear. Ask if you can try 4-5 different pairs in the pool to see if you like one pair over another, with the understanding that you will buy from them. Maybe you can use the far end of the pool while they're conducting a class in the other end?

all of them seem about equivalent, it merely relies upon in case you desire chop up or complete fins. no remember what you pick, truly make investments in spring straps, you'll get the lower priced ones, they're one among my smartest investments trust me
