I am 20 weeks, 3 days and had a scan today. I really want to know the sex of the baby but they wouldn't tell me! (You have to pay in the UK). I got a picture of the scan and the baby is showing an adams apple. Do girls show adams apples or is it just boys....?? im confused!!

You're looking at the picture wrong. It might look like an Adam's apple - but it isn't. It's something else in the photo, or just a blur. Babies do not have Adam's apples. This is something boys develop when they get into puberty. So, unless you're expecting a baby with a baritone and a five-o-clock-shadow, it's definitely NOT an Adam's apple you think you're seeing. This kids got 12 or more years before an Adam's apple shows up, if it's even a boy.

Girls don't have an Adam's Apple, hence the name Adam's Apple, if girls had them it would be called Eve's Apple. Plus why are you looking for an Adam's Apple, if you really want to tell the sex of the baby you should be checking to see if the apple has a stem on it. :-)

Ummm...I dont think boys show adams apples until around puberty when their voices start to change and get hoarse. I think you may be seeing a glitch in the pic, I had my scan 2 weeks ago and its a boy, you can only tell by looking at the privates and they call it a turtle cos it looks like a turtle shell with its head sticking up and out! Its sooo friggin' cute! That kinda sucks though that you have to pay for to know what you are carrying!!! Sorry, but try to find a turtle somewhere between the legs, if you dont you may be having a girl...its very hard to miss the turtle!Good luck!

No, its definately not an adams apple. They do not show up this early in life. That is not indication for either sex. Have a follow up u/s sound later, maybe the sex of the baby will be determined then.

ok, let me answer to it like this

1. You can't see adams apples on an ultrasound
2. Doctors sometimes make mistakes on telling the sex of the baby, so I don't think you should adventure to guess that.
3. The only thing that can say it is a boy is because you can see a penis between his legs.
4. Best advice: pay to know!!

I don't think so.... personally, I've never seen a baby with an adam's apple....

I think that the only way they can tell you the sex of the baby is by seeing it's genitalia. If you really want to know, why don't you just pay?

Btw, why do they make you pay for telling you the sex? Sounds pretty crazy to me...

Are you sure you weren't seeing something else? I have never seen an Adam's apple in a baby. This normally doesn't appear until puberty.

I don't think an adam's apple is an indicator - or could even be seen...guess you'll have to pay! Good Luck!
