I think it's just a matter of preference by the bowler. I used everything from Track, Storm, Brunswick, Ebonite and AMF when I seriously started getting into bowling. From that experiment, I just felt comfortable using Brunswick equipment and stuck with that brand for over 25 years from the time I joined my first league till now, and will stay with them. I would just say they are my favorite brand, but can't say who's best because I never used all the other high performance bowling equipment.

I carry two - an old ebonite Gyro that I let the oil soak into, and a Defense Zone that I keep clean. The Gyro is nice because it begins curving halfway down the lane and rolls nice in a variety of conditions. The Defense Zone breaks a lot later--it doesn't work well for some conditions, but when the lanes are oily enough, it has a powerful bite that starts very near the pins.
All of the top manufacturers make good balls for a variety of conditions. Pick one that acts a little differently or is for different conditions than the one you have now. Your pro-shop will be able to help you with this. If you have a dull urethane ball for oil, you might want a shiny one for dry lanes. You might also want to do what I did, get a ball that breaks at a different spot on the lane so that you have more than one shot available. Also, if you aren't having them fingertip drilled--do that with your new ball and change over your old one--the power difference on the hook is huge.
