Does the male and female connect to mate, does the male release sperm into the water? Why do the males nip or bite at the dark spot on the females belly? I can't seem to find the answer anywhere, please help!

You will notice that the male guppy has a long pointed anal fin. They use this to transfer sperm to the female guppy (hence the constant chasing). The dark spot on the female is called the gravid spot, it is the eyes of developing fry. Females have the ability to carry viable sperm for up to six months and the only chance a male has of continuing his DNA is to catch a female within a day of her giving birth.

iceni has it right...you may see the male swim up and bump the female...you have just seen them mate! It took my swords only 1 second to mate...I don't remember the exact number of days she was prego, but I had 21-30 fry in a month or two.
good luck on your babies...as far as the nipping, it may be to stimulate her...my swords never did that.

there is a gland on the female guppie and the male has to touch it with its body and that is how they mate.
