The easiest way to make candles is to buy a kit at a craft store. I have made them in all sorts of containers: Milk and juice cartons, paper towel rolls and all variety of waxed containers. The biggest thing is that you must be able to remove the mold. That's why the bought molds are best. Once you remove the molds, you have to buff the wax to a shine. You can use old stockings for this. They really bring out the shine.

An interesting candle that dates back some 40 years is made by filling a half-gallon milk or juice paper carton with cracked ice. Insert a wick in the center and tie it to a skewer placed across the top of the container. Before the ice has a chance to melt, you pour in melted wax. It will set up very quickly. When all the ice has melted, you pull off the carton, leaving a lacy candle.

If you want to make it really fancy, you take more melted wax and whip it. "Frost" the candle with the whipped wax. You can add some glitter to the whipped wax.

It is beautiful when it is lighted.

We make candles as gifts and we do it the cheap way. Buy wick thread and the little metal bottoms and cut your wicks according to the size of your candle and threat into the bottom holder. Melt wax on med-low heat on the stove in a stainless steel pitcher or pot. Place the wick in the center of the candle mold and hold it up while pouring the melted wax into molds. You can use two sticks (we use chopsticks) going across the mold with the wick in between them to hold it up. You can recycle things like jars and little garden pots to make the candles as gifts instead of using molds. You can use colored wax or buy coloring to add to the wax as it is melted. You can also buy scents or add essential oils. You add these after the wax is removed from heat and just before it is poured. You can buy the wax in bulk sheets and all this other stuff cheap (when you buy it this way) at a craft supply store or online.

First you melt the wax by placing it in container which is placed in a vessel of boiling water. After melting belore it hardens, you may add scraped bits of wax crayons or perfume for color and scent. Then pour it into a candle mould along with the wick. Let it cool and harden. Dont forget to oil the candle mould so that the wax does not stick to it. open the mould and voila! there you have your candle!!!
