The UAE goverment blocks loads of sites. Take your laptop down to the Internet City district as there are no restrictions on sites in that area.

Most people use VPN connections to unblock websites, is good to access blocked sites such as the BBC iPlayer outside of the UK and Hulu out of USA. Also gives anonymous browsing as well which is good when at work I guess.
