If you are at the beach, you can get sun burned even if you are in the shade. The sun reflects off of the water and the white sand.

yes there is a such thing as wind burn. I think it hurts more than a sunburn sometimes. You can also get sunburnt in the shade on the beach. It reflects off the sand, and water. Here is something to think about... when you are sitting in the shade, put your hand over a part of your exposed skin, do you see a shadow? If so there is still sunlight on your body and you can still get burnt. Whenever going outside, use a moisturizer with sunblock in it and you should be ok. Unless you choose to stay outside for long hours during the hottest time of the day. Not recomended.

You can absolutely get a windburn. I unfortunately get them every spring. We get horrible March winds. Your face gets unbelievably chapped. And yes you can get a sunburn at the beach - reflection from the water.
