Is it a good development that racial stereotypes can be made fun of, or is it dangerous?
In europe each country has its own stereotypes, and these are an endless source of jokes and humour amoung european nations. I don't think that great offence is taken normally, though it does happen sometimes. Is the same happening between black and white in the US, and is this a good thing?

I think it is good as long as it is done tastefully. It speaks volumes to be able to make light of something that in the past was a rough topic. It helps take the stong out I would guess, but the key is that it is done as humor and that they make fun of everyone not just one race or type.

I think movies that portray racism as humorous are first of all, only allowed to be one sided. A white film maker could not follow the same pattern. Secondly, they only work to put civil rights 50 steps back, which is a discredit to Dr. King, Rosa Parks and all those who made it possible for these people to make such films in the first place.

European nations have a slight difference in that the jokes are about people who essentially look the same on the outside, making it easier to remain annonymous if you really tried. Also, there were not issues of slavery and great oppression, not counting the concentration camps of WWI and WWII - but I don't think anyone's joking about those.

Your question didn't bring up serious films about racism, like Crash. I also think that movie was dangerous in its message that sometimes racially motivated violence is justified. It isn't. Ever.

Movies that make fun of racial stereotypes are meant to make you laugh, but if you were offended,I apologize.I'm not sure that they are beneficial, but these types of movies provide a humorous escape from life, albeit briefly.

I don't care for movies that follow that plot. I dont like in your face, requires no logical thought films.
To answer your question more specifically, I feel that making fun of a thing, does nothing for socirty's views, that must come from within. DId that make sense?
