how can one go about changing ones first name? If you hate the name that you have now. Can anyone tell me the steps in doing this and about how much it costs?

go to the court and file an application for a name change, don't know how much it will cost but the court will let you know exactly by the time you apply.

go to a lawyer n do a deed-poll...charges depend on where u are.
