when i was out with my husband last week, i had just come out of the restroom and he saw just inside the door. It was a very nice lounge area with comfy chairs. He asked me. . .what is that???? Like he had never seen such a nice restroom. I told him most nice womens restrooms have this area. . .he wants to know why. . .

That's for all the friends to sit and hang out when one girl goes to the bathroom.

Because it gives women a chance to have a private moment away from a date, or a chance to 'chat' in private when out with the girls. It is just a ' nicety' for us.Girls also sometimes use restrooms as social lounges. Guys will never speak a word or make eye contact with others they don’t know there.

Just a area to sit and talk with a girlfriend or to just take a brief rest, check makeup or hair. I like that area in the nice restrooms.

Considering many women go to the bathroom in pairs maybe it's an area where you can sit and talk and get out of the way for others to use the bathroom and wash their hands. Or maybe it's for nursing. Or maybe its just to show off... Who knows... good question.

How about this?

1) Since everyone is seated, this is a nice area to relax until a stall becomes available?

2) It's a nice area where they can get a 5-minute break from their a**hole husbands.

(hehehe .... Was I close?)

:>

Retro respective, restrooms were architectually designed that way to have a privacy of genders to have their small conversations, have a cigarette, and some times to keep people comfortable while waiting.

I think it is there just for looks mostly. Maybe it is like that in some places so that we can sit and relax and wait for the other person to get done. I dont know really. I somewhat wondered this myself. But this is just my opinion.

well those are handy ..

when you are on a bad date and you need a time out.. a good place to go and collect your thoughts and plan a graceful getaway
or when the women go to the bathroom together in packs like they do sometimes.. a good place for them to wait for each other and touch up their makeup

I think because being that women take more time for themselves that this area is needed for waiting & why not make it cozy at the same time.
