by law now ss adm must let you know what you will be getting at your current salary. call them up and ask them at 1 800 772 1213. the more you earn themore you can collect and the earlier you worked the more you get as well.

now, if you say buy and pay off a house by retirment say you get 2000 a month that will be quite nice to live on.

Periodically, Social Security sends around a summary of your payments and potential benefits. You should get one every couple of years, I think, but I'm sure the local Social Security office could tell you the formula.

I will tell you this: It's not going to be enough to live on.
