1) Dial 011 for all international calls from the U.S.; 2) dial 81 which is Japan's country code, 3) and dial the number. Note that all Japanese numbers start with a 0; when you're calling from outside Japan, you need to skip that first 0. Tokyo land line numbers are like, 03-****-****, with each * signifying a digit, so you need to skip the zero to make the call. The country code should be <+1> from Japan, since I am calling by using this code as well when I called from Malaysia.
