In reality, the only way to get rid of anything on a computer is the literally take a hammer to the hard drive. There are so many programs that actually get the information even after it is formatted. The only other suggestion is to format the harddrive like 10 times to wipe almost all the information. But, remember, formatting wipes out all programs including windows. A lot of people will not buy a computer without Windows on the computer. If you have all the CD's with the computer, than my suggestion is to format numerous times and then reinstall windows. I hope this helps you!

Just as another note, there are programs that also help wipe out computers:

Does formatting a hard drive wipe out hard drives?
Many people are surprised when they realize that formatting the hard drive DOES NOT wipe out hard drives. Your data is still there and is accessible to most file recovery programs. With WipeDrive you can completely wipe and format hard drives to get your computer ready to sell, donate, or throw away, or get rid of computer viruses that other programs can't. WipeDrive makes protecting yourself safe and easy.

Just a suggestion!
