Brutal honesty most often does not respect another's feelings and may cause offence, soiling a person's heart which in turn may lead to other problems - if not immediately then later in life.
Easing into it does not make it dishonest at all, merely respectful. Having said that, there are times when brutal honesty is called for, but then stand by to also offer an apology, asking forgiveness in order to mend relationships or at least offended hearts.

Absolutely, I am brutally honest with everyone. Obviously it can hurt some folk but it is the best option. Otherwise what are we doing? Pretending and avoiding, thats just cowardly. Find a medium and use it. There are too many these days to have an excuse not to. A few simple words can do the trick and allow the person to fully move on, change their ways if they feel the need to and accept the truth.

Brutal honesty....why sugarcoat anything, especially if your an adult...now if it comes to my 2 1/2 year old...that's a different story, I would ease into things with her, but once she is old enough to understand I will be brutally honest with her (B/C I rather her hear/know the truth from me, rather than someone else). My dad always told me ALWAYS BE HONEST, regards less of who you hurt.

you just have learn from the experience and try to move forward..

I prefer to ease into it. I am dealing with someone who insists on nothing but...and I am loving it. Although I am sometimes unprepared for what will come out of his mouth, I definitely appreciate having everything upfront, so that I can look at things from many sides when making a decision.

It depends. Did I ask for your opinion or are you volunteering it? If I ask, it's because I want a real answer that's 100% true. If not, then there might not be any reason to tell me I'm stupid, or dress funny, etc.
I'd always prefer the truth, even the brutal truth, over a lie though.

If the truth can be told with tact and grace..while still getting it across, that's the way I go. If, however, the person is just not getting it, I will hit them over the head with a 2x4 if I have to. I've always said I would prefer an ugly truth over a pretty lie. I always want to know where I stand.

i feel that my passive nature that wants to avoid conflict always tends to ease into it, but i would much prefer to be able to stand tall and just lay it all on the line. i dont think that lying is ever an option, however.....and i would seriously doubt the sincerity of any relationships in my life if i couldnt be honest with the person.
