If you'd just stop polluting your brain with Rush and O'Reilly for a day or two and do some unbiased, investigative research, you'd discover that over the last decade members of the Republican Party have been involved with more scandals, criminal offenses, and unethical activities than any political party in history. The Democrats are not angels by any stretch of the imagination. Both parties have had their share of unscrupulous activities. However, the Republican Party holds the record by a country mile. This is not a Democrat vs Republican issue or conjecture; it's fact. So instead of getting all caught up in NeoCon rhetoric, get your head out of your butt, open your eyes and accept the truth for what it is.

P.S. Read Gary's post.

What? Ok, I guess that's SEMI-literate...I think I got ya.

Well, here's my "spin" on this. Foley is a "sick individual" who happens to be a Republican, true. He does not represent the Republican party as a whole, true. BUT, the republican party is the party that has made a fine art of exploiting the popular bigotry against gay people for political gain, and Foley was a part of that. Therefore it IS pretty ironic that he turned out to be gay, and it makes for an interesting window into the hypocrisy of the GOP stance on the gay issue.

The pedophilia issue is, of course, totally separate, as much as right-wingers love to confuse it with the gay issue to justify their bigotry - or rather, their exploitation of the bigotry of their slack-jawed yokel constituents. But maybe, just maybe, Foley tended to try to go after minors because he figured they'd be easier to manipulate, exploit and keep quiet. Thus, once again, it's a good wholesome moral lesson on the dangers of repression, denial, and hypocrisy.

Hmmmm. But Foley started off his political career as a Democrat. Does that figure into the mix?

Ok, I can accept all of that, now explain the cover up. That is where I think that the repuglican party as a whole let the country down, they knew about this from 6 months to a year ago and did nothing. It might not be but it sure looks like politics as usual for the repuglican party.

There is no excuse for Foley's predatory behavior toward the underaged.

There is no excuse for the Republican Party tolerating it, putting the interests of power over doing what's right.

There is no way you can spin this to avoid the Republican Party getting a pie in their collective faces for it. Accept that they did wrong and must pay a price.

Yes they do all have their problems, but not all them promised a Family Values congress and then acted on party loyalty in a cover up rather than a quiet leave taking when Hastert first became aware of it and spoke to Foley about it .
If you put a halo on your own head, don't be surprised when someone else knocks it off.

Are you a member of the party of personal responsibilty?

Oh, I couldn't tell because I've never met a personally responsible person who responds to discovery of their badness by talking about someone else's badness.

Aren't you embarassed to be getting your thought processes from a drug addict (rush?)

Actually, I think the big issue is that several other Republicans knew what was going on and covered it up (ring any Catholic church scandal bells folks?)
