I know we are supposed to look deeper than the surface when dealing with others but when was the last time you purely made a decision to go out with someone, talk to someone, exchange phone numbers, etc. based on what you were looking at? Once you did talk with them though, did you find out that they were more or less than their physical appearance led you to believe?

I belieive the old saying "don't judge a book by its cover" in inhernently flawed, if one is an astute observer of human characteristics and style, then it is possible, they say it is hard to get over a first impression and this is why I judge quickly and very rarely am I suprised, the exceptions are when dealing with different cultures.

I cannot get past the thought that a persons disposition, character & personality APPEARS to show in their facial expression, as well as in the way they carry themselves. And how a person takes care of themselves hygenically also seems to say something. It is very difficult for me to ignore all this outward input.
But, experience has shown me how wrong I can be time and again, so naturally I strive not to draw too many conclusions nor be judgmental.
Nevertheless, I HAVE TO ADMIT I continue to make miscalculations and inappropriate decisions based upon outward appearances, but only when I'm forced to make a snap decision and not given the opportunity to talk to them and discover the inner self.
I have found I need AT LEAST 15 minutes to get a better feel for the person. Incredibly, I have found that when I have this time, about half the time, I CHANGE my initial point of view. The very peculiar thing is my faulty impressions go both ways-- I am as prone to overestimate a person as much as underestimate them.

Its strange. I know its not the right thing to do but I keep forming opinions based on the person's physical apperarence but I combine it with their body language, way of dressing etc to form an opinion. Incase of girls, I automatically assume the prettier the better, sorry cant help it.

I have learned not to make these type of judgements...
I believe in "what you see is what you get" and leave the deeper stuff for later...
I don't take out a beautiful woman for her mind....
If she happens to have one, all the better , but at first, I am not
after her mind...
I have several beautiful friends "with benefits" whom I have known for several years and have shared "benefits" for several years that I would never be able to have a permanant live-in serious relationship with because of what is in their minds & hearts.

It goes both ways, gals looking at guys and visa verse. But with time and wisdom, I have learned not to be so critical until they open their mouth and remove all doubt! When I was young and nieve, it was a rule...beauty is only skin deep but ugly goes clean to the bone...I now relate that to personalities.
