I had that same problem with my first pregnancy. I had one about every 6 weeks for several months. Yes the creams do get expensive, but worth it to avoid that horrible feeling. If your insurance covers prescripton medication or a small payment from you, it may be more cost effective for you to see if your OB will give you a prescription. Just explain to him the situation and they will probably help you out. They may even have samples at the office that they will be willing to give to you?

Firstly, speak with your OBGYN, just to be sure this is not cervicitis, bacterial vaginosis, or another normal "female complaint" that isn't a candida (yeast) infection. Bacterial vaginosis is a very common complaint during pregnancy and can feel like a yeast infection but is actually pretty much the same thing except a bacterial overgrowth rather than an overgrowth of yeast in the vagina.

One thing that may help you is to eat a serving of yogurt with active cultures in it (most have this,) and this tends to help prevent yeast infections.

Still, if the yeast infection won't go away, (which is what it sounds like is the real problem here, it is almost cured and then doesn't go away so it feels like it is "returning,) it may be an infection which because it hasn't been cured is now resistant to over the counter creams, so you should consult your OBGYN or Clinician, and s/he will provide you with something which can alleviate the problem. Also, if it is "smelly," then that is definitely BV and cannot be cured by OTC remedies, even though it is as common as your basic yeast infection.

Good luck and congratulations on your soon to be newborn!! :)

To help prevent yeast infections:

1) eat yogurt with active yogurt cultures.

2) Avoid sugary foods.

3) Wear white 100 percent cotton underwear (with no nylon in it whatsoever). Wear skirts with no pantyhose or loose, cotton, breathable pants. Don't wear tight jeans or tight pants of any kind. Don't wear synthetic pants, such as polyester or acrylic.

4) At night, as soon as you get home, put on a nightgown or long skirt with no underwear to let yourself "breathe." In bed, don't wear pajama bottoms or underwear.

5) Take warm baths at night and dry yourself thoroughly afterward. Don't use bath salts or bubble bath or douches of any kind, which can upset your vaginal PH.

6) Avoid scented toilet paper and perfumed or harsh soaps. AVOID shower gel and body wash at all times and use 100 percent glycerin soap (from Whole Food Markets) that is unscented.

7) Also, make sure you doctor is aware of the problem. High blood sugar (gestational diabetes) can trigger recurrent yeast infections, as can HIV infection. You are likely being tested for blood sugar at every doctor's appointment anyway, but your doctor should know about this problem.

Discuss it with your doctor. Recurring yeast infections can be a symptom of pregnancy. Try wearing cotton underwear and at night sleep without any. You might also try wearing dresses during the day, tight fitting pants can be a problem and don't wear pantyhose unless you are required to wear hose at work. You should also eat yogurt with active cultures. But definitely talk to your doctor. Recurring yeast infections can also be a sign of diabetes.

You are eating too much yeast. Cut back on your breads, rice, pasta, sugars, and such. Eat yogurt. Not the sugary, sweet, flavored, and colored kinds, either. Eat some Dannon's with fruit or something. It has acidophilous in it, which combats yeast infections. Also, cleanse that area with less harsh soaps. Massengil makes a cleanser just for "that" area. Make sure you are only wearing white, cotton underpants, too. But yogurt is the best way!!!

you need to discuss this with your doctor. either you need to keep buying the creams, or he needs to give you a prescription. i had a friend who, 4 years ago was 7 months pregnant, went into labor early, had a yeast infection, and the baby ended up dieing. if its something that concerns the well being of your child, you should be willing to do whatever it takes to get rid of the problem!!!

Yeast infections are caused from several reasons, tight underware and moist warm areas. I do not believe that an OB/GYN will order Diflucan (oral medication) while you are pregnant because it could be harmful to the baby. I suggest wear lose fitting white cotton underware because cotton breaths well. Yogart with live cultures is also premo for this situation. Also try not wearing underware to bed if you do, this helps to air yourself out.

1. Go to the doctor's
2. Use Unscented soaps...Dove is very good
3. Wear cotton underwear and if you have to wear something sexy... wear cotton lined underwear
3. If all fails go the doctor's

Also... my daughter was year old when she experienced some vaginal discomfort from a bout with a virus. Her doctor suggested bathing her in Baking Soda and using Lotrin F (sp?) foot cream. This helped out tremedously.

Ask your doctor for the pill for yeast infections, I forget what it's called. (fluconazole) You should just be able to phone it in.

Also, ask your doctor if you can take the acidophillis (sp?) it's the ingredient in yogurt, it's found at health stores in pill form (sometimes you can find it at Walgreens or your local drug store). This should prevent your yeast infections from coming back.

Have you spoken with you're doctor about this? You need to make sure that you take something to dispose of the infection especially before giving birth. Talk to your doctor about your reactions and problems and see what he suggests.
