from which you may never return. What would you take with you (no humans, no animals are allowed)
This is Q&A's equivalent to desert Island discs.

Does that mean I am limited to only 10 things?
I'll understand it to mean that for now; if you mention something about it in "additional detaills", I can always come back and add to my list.
My passport.
A lock of my husband's hair, a snipped bit of fur from each of my 10 cats and a feather from my cockatiel. (I guess those count as 3?) (Oh please don't say it's 12!)
A change of underwear.
A floppy disc with all my photo files on it.
My digital camera.
An international prepaid phone card.
My reading glasses.
Money (in cash).
I'm done. Practical, rather than imaginative. When can i go?

I would take my digital camera, and document everything. I would rig a generator to a bicycle chain; use the power to charge my camera batteries and other power sources. I would live off the land also. (In your question you mentioned “on return” or did you mean “a long time”)

Hmm, well other person said mobile phone, but I disagree as there's bound to be no signal!
How many things can I take?!
Maybe James Joyce 's Ullyses as I never finished reading it even when I was supposed to at uni....(I can't even spell it, that's how much I studied it!)
A box of matches...
A bumper pack of tissues for emergency poo...
Some aspirin...
You're going to have to put a limit on what I can take, else I'll be going on for ever!!!!!

I would take books with all the information in them to make whatever it is I needed. Photographs of all my nearest and dearest so I would never forget what they looked like.
