I'm in Louisiana and need someone to re-shingle my roof "take old ones off and put new ones on", I have 30 squares and have about a 6/12 pitch. I will buy the materials myself and I have a group of people that will do it for probably almost anything I give them,I want a real good deal but I want to be fair. Can someone give me a good estimate on what I should pay them?

When I estimate a job and with hauling the shingles to the dump and buying the supplies, I figure around $225.00 per square. Since you have everything pay them a decent hourly wage. In the small town where I live you can get men to help you for $10.00 and hour, cash. Around here I usually furnish the beer too.

Most roofers charge by the "square". Just call a few local roofing companies and tell them you thinking of re-roofing your house in about six months and want an idea what it going to cost. Tell them you wanting the old roof removed and new installed and just need a "Ballpark" estimate for later when you have the money. They will give you a rough estimate. Then you decide from this what you want to pay these other guys, depending on their experience. If, it was someone I knew and wanted a fair deal in both directions; say a company estimate $3,000 I may figure around $2,100 that save about 30%. If, I going to furnish drinks and food $1,800. 50% would be the least I would pay for the labor and that is getting "chinchy".
Remember, these are estimates you have to do a little phone work and call 2-3 roofing companies for your area.
