Is this baby number 2? If so than how do you know if the induction will make the contractions worse than with out? All induction does in speed up the process and you basically get to a certain point in labor faster, but not always.
If it is not your second time than maybe ask your doctor to try a different form of induction or try things like going for walks but staying close to home/hospital. Lots of sex, spicey food or greasy food, anything to get your digestive tract going.
But I can tell you from experience the second time around it does not take as long as the first for the baby to come.

I did a lot of walking the few days leading up to my labor. Are you dialated at all? When I had my daughter, I was 2cm so my husband and I did a lot of walking. Luckily, my contractions started within two days and my water broke in the hospital. If you really don't want to have an induction, talk it over with your doctor. Obviously, if you go too far past 40 weeks, there might be a problem and you may have to be induced. But walking helped me a lot and it has helped a lot of women I know. Go shopping. Go to your local zoo. Walk around a nearby park. Just keep a watch on you if you start contracting.

Nothing has worked for me. I am 40 weeks and 4 days today and none of the old wives tales of walking or sex eating spicy food has helped. I will be induced on Friday if I dont pop in the next few days. I dont have high hopes of this happening. I was induced for my first pregnancy also, but due to preeclampsia, not from being late. I really dont remember the pitocin they give you to boost the contractions making things hurt any worse? Quite honestly I am so ready to go that I dont care how they get this baby out. There is always that epidural to look forward to. good luck to you.

unless you have medical issues that will harm you or the baby, i say let nature take its course. babies know when they are ready to come out. a womans body knows when the baby is ready. before the medical technologies we have now, women went into labor when they went into labor. there were no other choices. i say if you are healthy and the doctor says its ok, wait for your water to break then head to the hospital. its easy for doctors to induce labor to fit the schedules of the parents and/or his tee time at the golf course. as long as you are close to the hospital and in good health, talk to your doctor about it. you dont have to be induced.

No i don't have any suggestions but...

Only be induced if you want to. Childbirth is not an injury. Just because it doesn't come out on your doctors "precious schedual" doesn't mean that it can't come out. Make this as calming as you can. Childbirth can be very scary because of pain and what not. Do what YOU would feel more comfortable with.

and remember, Doctors are NOT authority figures.

Good luck , you and your family are in my prayers

I used to be due on eight/15 and later given eight/20, and gave beginning on eight/10 my water broke at house. You can cross among 38-forty two weeks and it's great. Your due date is solely the normal forty week mark, like 28 days is to a interval. Try going for walks, intercourse, and highly spiced meals. Your youngster will come quickly adequate. Enjoy the motion and the pampering!

Well it could have just been a coincidence, but I always say spicy Chinese food did it for me with my first. Had it for lunch after church on Sunday and was in labor early Monday morning!
It could be any time though, maybe just some light exercise or walking would help.

Good luck and congrats!!!

From what I understand, nipple stimulation will do it more often than anything else. Supposedly when the nipples are stimulated near term in pregnancy, the placenta may produce oxytocin (your body's natural Pitocin) to get the contractions moving. Your body does the same thing after the baby is born while breastfeeding to help your uterus involute back to its normal size.

A baby will come naturally when they are ready. Talk to a birthing clinic about ways to deal with labour pains naturally by breathing tecqniques stretching or walking. Hope this helps and good luck.
