I thought maybe it happened in 1964 when
neither World Series manager returned the next year. Yogi Berra was fired from the
Yankees and Johnny Keane quit the Cardinals and went to Yankees but I don't if either was Manager of year.

Davey Johnson of the Orioles was Manager of the Year in '97 - officially he resigned his post, but it's pretty clear that if he hadn't he would have been fired due to conflicts with ownership.

I don't know about M of the Y, but I wondered why San Fran let Dusty Baker go after the Giants made the playoffs

I don't believe so.. but Girardi definitely deserves it for what he did with those kids this year.
