Well sorry to tell you this but I have few people who work at a pet store who actually know what they are talking about. They recite stuff but have little experience in what may actually work. Keep in mind I have not seen your fish but I will may a suggestion.
First test your water parameters. They could be off. Buy a testing kit and treatment drops and get it back in range. If that doesn't work then maybe;
If he has enough energy to swim erraticily he has enough energy. It may an end stage illnes but still he is exhibiting the energy. Try feeding him several times a day. If he was well fed he should last while without food. Not that you should deprive him of food but that if he refuses to eat that is not the main concern.
Second if he is truely sick you can treat him. You are going to want broad-spectum because I can't tell what it is. Most illnesses cause lethergy which was his old symptom that has disapated. I would go with tetracycline. It is an excellent antibiotic that I use to treat my sick fish. You can buy this for sure at petsmart. That is where I always get mine. Follow the directions on the package since they come in varying degrees of strength. Be sure not to O.D. him. That is really bad. That in and of itself could kill him. And whatever you do do not give on him! Fish can come back from the brink of death. My fish baby came back from not eating for two weeks, not moving, and having a severe cause of bacterial septecemia. Keep treating him and he may recover. Start asap with treatment. Good luck and a speedy recovery.

Sounds like you have a problem with your water. Don't feed your tank for two days. Change 20% of the water today, and again in three days. New tanks need time to develop beneficial bacteria that convert fish waste (ammonia) into nitrites. Other bacteria will turn the nitrites into less harmful nitrates which you keep form reaching toxic levels by changing 20% of the water every week. Don't buy any more fish for a couple of weeks while this cycle develops in your tank.

The PH level could be off in your tank or there might not be enough oxygen in the water. Do you have a filter? Also try putting some conditioner drops in the water.

The fish is going to die....take the loss and start over. Youll spend more money in gas to get back to petco than you will buying a new fish. They are like a dollar.

Take it easy. I have seen similar behavior. Don't overfeed or add chemicals not required, maintain the water temp - not too cold. Good luck.
