In the 1950s we ALL lived without central or even peripheral heating. When you wake up with frost on the INSIDE of the window, you have lived. Toughen up a bit. Wise up a bit more. Learn to survive. Some day you will thank me.

Is there no fireplace? I got one of those ceramic blow heaters that people use in caravans and boats - called a power furnace, About the size of a speaker from a midi hi-fi. Very economical to run, though I dont really like blow heaters in general as they are noisy and 'dry' the air too much. An oil-filled radiator will give you the most natural form of heating but you should speak to your landlord about at least getting some storage heaters in.

A Zibro Kamin!
My mother lives in Belgium and has a parrafin heater of theirs in her kitchen. It feels like she got central heating (this is a tile-floor kitchen) and there is no condensation and only the tiniest bit of smell when she first lights it. But then it is near 15 years old now.
I live rented too and a Zibro is what is the top of my want list for heating.
They definitly don't come cheap and need to be treated with some respect (they are heavy, permanent kind of fixtures almost) but they could last you for many years to come.
Check out the links for pictures. I think they are the only models they do.

Ah the good old days...........NOT!!! we used to have a paraffin fire and everytime my brothers girlfriend came in she would fall asleep after about 1/2 an hour. Not a healthy option! And plug in heaters cost a fortune to run no matter how cheap they are to buy.
Lots of blankets on the bed and good warm layers of clothing (thin layers of cotton work best) for wearing inside and demand that whoever owns the house put in some central heating or you are going to go the the environmental health!

You can get pretty cheap oil heaters which are not expensive to run either. Your landlord should be providing a heating source to you by the way, check it out with them and if you are not happy with what they provide tell them you will buy a couple and take it off your rent next month. Try the classified ads, trade papers or even Argos.

Big halogen heaters type things I think should be best for you.
We have radiator Glen things and I am really scared about what the heating bill is going to be.
Why don't you try actually doing something as when you sit there that makes you cold. Dance around the kitchen and make a cup of tea go and put another jumper on as my dad would say and lots of tealights going seem to make a difference in my room, plus they are pretty.

A large Halogen heater or an oil filled radiator. And definitely an electric blanket. Good luck!

Wear more clothes. Central heating is bad for you anyway. I was raised without it and came to no harm. You could get a cheap, oil filled rad for emergency sub-zero use.

you may want to purchase quite a few small lockable metallic bins that could want to do the pastime. Ask an electrician to drill a hollow for the cables, then get him to get rid of the heating administration, screw the total container to the wall and refit the heating administration interior that. some hours artwork for an electrician with sharp drill bits.

Don't do Fan Heaters - nearly bankrupted me during my university days!!!! If you are a student, recommend lots of jumpers and alcohol!!
What about the storage heater things?? Don't know how expensive they are to buy though?
