My boyfriend and I have a very monogomous relationship (trust I am certain), therefore we dont always have protected sex. However, I've already been pregnant twice in the past. The first time I got pregnant because I wasnt on any birth control and the second time I was on a low-hormone pill. Even though the pill was use as directed I feel that the particular pill type mightve been too weak and thats why I ended up preggers, but the catch is that I can only consume low-doses of hormones in my system, so any regular pill is out of the question...they make my system go haywire. So, now I am looking at long term birth control methods like the IUD and others. Can someone please share their experiences with any of these? I dont want to have to worry about a pill everyday or worry about the chances of possibly being pregnant again.

Also please note, that tying my ovarian tubes is NOT an option, I am too young for that. Notice that I did say that I did get pregnant twice before but I didnt say that I actually have any kids.

the other answers you received were unfortunately not very helpful to your particular situation. look very closely at the iud, in particular, the mirena iud. it is convenient, long term and causes your periods to be much lighter and less painful than usual-most women dont even have periods on it. it has a small amount of hormones that affects the lining of your uterus but doesnt raise your blood levels significantly and there is no estrogen. i would not use the copper iud as it will cause heavier, more painful periods which may be bothersome. i currently have the mirena iud myself and am a gynecologist so i speak from much experience. in addition, the iud is more effective than tying your tubes in preventing pregnancy and it is reversible.

The minerva IUD. Its safer than the original copper IUDs. it also releases a low dose of hormones to make your period lighter and shorter. It needs to be replaced every 5 years. I have used this since my youngest son was born. he is now 6 and I will never use anything else this is great

the surgical ways: get your tubes tied, get him a vascetomy. The easier way - you can use a fertility chart - you can look up fertility charting at google and it will take you to many free sites where you can chart when you will be most fertile - thus the days NOT to have sex. It does work - i am one of the statistics that developed a blood clot from regular old ortho tricyclene LO and am not able to go on any hormones - it has worked for us for almost two years now.

Good luck

I have the Mirena IUD and love it. No more cramps or PMS when I get a period it is very light! I had no pain getting it put in. I spotted for the first month.

Hate to say it, but you can either do without (which is no fun) or get your tubes tied (no fun either).

If I was you, I would stick with condoms and your low hormone pills, just so if one breaks, the other will kick in hopefully.

Also if HE has a very hot bath first, it will kill (or at least drastically reduce) the sperm in his body at the time. It is a hasle, and he has to be above 45C minimum, but it is known to work.

What if he has a vasectomy?

If I were you, learn about when you ovulate. WOrk around that and don't take birth control. Knowing your body and when you are most likely to get pregnant will help you if you dedicate yourself to it. Plus since you won't be putting any toxins in your body it will work better.
