The Financial Index founded in 1882 by reporters: Charles Dow, Edward Jones. It was named after then in 1902.

The Dow Jones Index was founded by Charles Dow ,Edward Jones and Charles Berstresser in 1882. The DJIA represented the average of 12 stocks from various important American Industries. Of the original 12 only General Electric remains part of the average.
Today the average consists of 30 of the largest and most widely held public companies in the US.
