Basically, I'm going to be gone from december 16 to January 16. What kind of fish can I have where I can leave them alone with some of those 14 day food things for that month and they will still be alive when I come back.

Restocking the fish is also an option. But then what will happen to the fish that are in the tank. When they die, will they screw up the water?

I have a 10 gallon tank and my fish aren't going to cost more than about $2 each.

For less then $20.00 you can get an automatic fish feeder that will feed them for a month. It is probably cheaper then restocking your tank when you get back.

What do you mean, "can I have"? Don't you have them yet? If not, don't get them yet. Wait until you come home.
Some fish can go as long as 2-3 weeks without eating if they are in super condition, but they all need to have partial water changes done every week.
Have you no friends that aren't idiots????? Relatives????? Someone who could drop in and feed every 3-4 days and do a small (20%) water change once a week.
If you have no problem buying new ones, give them back to the pet store, at least their deaths won't be on your conscience. Maybe the pet store will even give you credit for a few new ones when you get back....

Okay there are fish who can last on travel food. Bettas being one them. But water changes are going to be a big deal. To not have to change the water for an entire month you are going to need about a 200 gallon aquaruim and have it severely UNDERstocked. It would have to be about 1 inch of fish for every five gallons of water. And they would have to be clean fish. NO goldfish! You would need a feeder that lasted 14 days to come on every other day. Since fish don't need to be fed every day. SO a 200 gallon aquarium, one inch of fish for every five gallons, and an auto feeder on for every other day might last a month. Might. Good luck.

well lets see. Put you in a tank, feed you the first 14 days and see if you last the next 16 days. While you are swimming in your own food and poop with no water change..... The feeders are time released they will only last 14 days, you will most likely come back to dead fish. Pet store employee for 4 years

Don't buy fish, or at least don't get attached to them. Automatic feeders generally don't work well. They put to much in, and foul the water. Also you need to clean the gravel in a tank weekly, and change out some of the water.
