A cubic foot is equal to 1728 cubic inches. To find the volume of a box in cubic feet, multiply the width times the length times the depth (all in inches) and divide by 1728. For example, a box that measures 24" x 24" x 18" has a volume of 6 cubic feet.

I would buy boxes based on l x w x h instead of cubic feet. A 6 cubic foot box is equal to 44 gallons or 169 liters.

6 cubic feet is a volume and comes from multiplying the 3 dimensions of a box. Those 3 dimensions, when multiplied, equal 6 cubic ft. The 3 dimensions could vary. Some possible sets of dimensions that would work would be:
2ft x 2ft x 1.5ft
3ft x 2ft x 1ft

It could be various dimensions, you multiply the lenght x width x height to get cubic feet. For example 3 feet long x 2 feet wide x 1 foot high = 6 cu feet. If it were square it would be approx. 2 feet 5 inches on each side as 2 feet 5 inches cubed is 6 cubic feet.

A perfect cube would be 1.817' x 1.817' x 1.817'. You may want to get someone on the phone to tell you the dimensions. My guess is that the 6 cubic feet is approximate.
