Whoever said "just rename it" is from another planet. This has never worked, and as far as I know there are no plans to make this work. The reason for this is that the extension of a file and it's actual contents are technically unrelated - the extension is there only for human reference. By renaming it you only change the extension - the contents of the file would stay the same. In this case you would end up with a file called something.jpg, but the first part of that file (the file header) would say (in computer terms, to the computer) "I am an MS Word document" - you wouldn't have achieved your goal.
The way to do this _correctly_ and simply is as follows:
Open your Word document, and also open Paint.
Select the picture you wish to extract in Word, then Copy (ctrl-c) it.
Go to the open Paint window and Paste (ctrl-v) it.
All you need to do now is go to Save As... in Paint and select the format you want (.jpg) and give it a name.
I hope this helps.
Please, please ignore the "rename it" advice - it's so wrong it makes me want to cry.
Rawlyn.

Are you trying to extract the photo from a word file? If so, simply right click the image and save it to your hard drive. If you are trying to make the whole document into an image, you can use Adobe Writer (about $180.00). This will make an image of the document, but it won't really be editable anymore. It is however a good way to send large docs as tiny files. Hope this helps.

You have a text document in Word you want to save as a photo? Or do you have a photo embedded in a Word document yopu want to save as a separate file?
Assuming the latter....right click on the picture in the word document, select Copy, then open MS Photoeditor (or any other photo prgram you have) and select paste and then save it.
If it is a simple text document ion Word, I can't think of any scenario why you would want it in a photo format file. You could print it and then scan it.
Simply changing the file extension (as suiggested by some response) definitely will NOT work. You also cannot save in jpg format using "Save As.." in Word as someone else suggested

Just renaming the extention will NOT work - you will either get an error msg, or a msg saying it can't display the image. Off the top of my head, there is no say to just simply "convert" it to a photo file. You can, however, change it to a web page, and publish it. You can also take screen prints of each page and save them as images. If you have Adobe, I know you can convert to a .pdf, and then convert it into an image as well. Good luck.

You can't simply change or save the file in Word as a photo file type.
The only way you will be able to save a word document as a photo file is to first print your document.
And then scan it into your computer, and save it as a, jpeg, gif, bitmap, or any other photo image file type.

here is the one that will work....
1. open your word file
2. press ctrl+alt+print screen (this will capture just the window)
3. Open paint (hint: it's in "all programs > accessories")
4. In paint go to the menu option Edit > paste
5. Go to the menu option File > Save as
6. In this dialog box is the option to set the file name and type (.jpg or .gif are usual web photo file types)
7. Click "save"

The only way I can think of is to save the word file to pdf and open it in Photoshop and resave it as jpeg or any file format you prefer.

You could copy and paste it into paint. Or save it as a jpeg file.

I didn't know the whole thing would save into a .jpg file. I would print it, and then scan it as a .jpg file.
