I was an elem ed major in the sixties and social studies majors were a dime a dozen then as well, only to be out-numbered by the phys ed majors! I wish you well. I gave up on my bachelor of science in education for nursing.

I am a secondary history teacher and I did have a hard time finding a job... I have my degree in history and I am certified to teach...If I were you, make sure that your portfolio is very good, use different teaching stratigies and make sure that during student teaching take photos and add them to your book... It is a great way to sell yourself. History is seen as boring and all lectures make your portfolio show that you have a active fun approach and they will pick you over everyone else.... Good Luck!

Don't worry too much there are thousands of teaching posts vacant at the moment. There will always be a need for new teachers even History teachers

i dont tink that it is true. i m a student myself and i dont think that my school has too many history teachers. in fact, i feel that we should have more, so that the teachers can take on lesser classes and concentrate on each class better,

also, even if there are many history teachers, what matters is the QUALITY OF THE EDUCATION you can give the students. some history teachers are jus dead boring. they have the knowledge, but they cannnot make it "come to live". it bores us students out and we lose interest. so i guess if u can TEACH WELL, y not?

There were rumours like this about posts for secondary maths teachers when I was training, but I had a choice of 2 school for my NQT year, as long as you are prepared to move for a job or promotion you should be fine.

There is a continual problem recruiting maths and physics teachers.

There are always plenty of teaching posts in other subjects. In the last couple of weeks I have seen adverts for:- English, Biology, PE, Arabic, IT, History, RE and Sociology. And most of those are for ONE school alone.

There might be many History teachers but that doesn't mean you wont be able to be one- stay positive and don't listen to rumours.
