.... This causes severe pain in my ear, which I know is connected, what I dont understand is, what is the cause of this considering it flares up every couple of months, and, why is only one side affected? does this point to a weakness in this area, and is it related to SEVERE head pain sometimes whilst on a flight. (Also on the same side of my head as the swelling lymph gland.)

Update: I went to the Docters to get checked out, and enroute I started coughing up blood, very long story short, my right 'tonsil' had burst, the Dr said it would stop bleeding after 24/48 hours. Due to the volume of blood I swallowed I ended up in A and E at the local hospital. Altough at this point the tests are inconclusive the hospital are treating me for Quinsy, a relatively rare complication to tonsilitus.

There are very few references to be found online, and the only one that is of any real value is as follows (nhs website) :-

I am taking a anti-biotic and an anti-macrobial medication for two weeks.

I get the same problem all the time in my right ear and lymph node, and it's because my fluids aren't drainning properly, and normally leads to an ear infection.

Sometimes my lymph swells so much that you can touch my neck and feel it. All I have to do is open my mouth and you can SEE the huge bulge...it gets very painful.

You should immediately see your doctor. You may have some king of lymphatic cancer. Not likely, it is probably an infection requiring antibiotic medicine but you need to be sure.
