One of my students wants to present a group brain teaser for a workshop we'll be running, but the question seems a bit odd, so I'm hoping the solution is somewhere so that I can figure out what went wrong with the question...
It goes like this:
You and your friends have been hiking in the jungle when you come to a chasm that is flooded with lava. You realize you can't go back our around the chasm because your provisions will run out unless you cross here. As you're wondering how to cross one of you finds a stone with the following carved into it:
You need to cross the lava? You can! Beneath this stone are some magic boots. Wear the boots and a bridge of stone will form over the lava. Beware, for you may not set foot on the bridge unless wearing the boots! Lastly, one person must remain behind as a sacrifice for using the boots.

There are 5-7 of you and you have to figure out a way not to leave anyone behind! The boots can only be used one less time than the group number.

The getting people across is easy. What concerns me is how the heck is there some solution to not leaving someone behind as a sacrifice?

Hint: Something probably needs to be added in or removed, but that's the part I *don't* know... What is it? Or how would you change the challege to have it make more sense?

1min + 2mins is = 2mins 5mins + 10mins is = 10mins the first 2 ppl can shine the flashlight again at the different 2 ppl once they go lol...idk if the elementary might want to bypass that some distance even with the actuality that. Or if accessible, all 4 ppl can connect fingers and walk throughout at the same time - with the chief shining the flashlight. yet then, that's no longer sufficiently huge for 4 ppl suitable?

The solution seems pretty obvious -- so I am unsure of it.

You just have to make sure that one person crosses the bridge without setting foot on it. Perhaps he is carried, perhaps he walks over on his hands.
