I never, ever post my email address anywhere on the web. Not on guestbooks, blogs, forums, etc. This way spam bots don't pick up my address.

Since I have my own domain, I have created lots of throwaway email addresses. They all forward to the same account. For example, junk1@domain.com, junk2@domain.com, junk3@domain.com. If one gets too much spam, i delete it.

In 10 years on the web, I rarely get spam.

There is spam filter in each mail client.

dont sign up for a bunch of crap on the web. newsletters etc..
