This is what I was told by a friend who was learning the business. The models are suppose to be like walking hangers, their bodies are not suppose to take away from the clothing, therefore no big booties or boobies. Also the designers make their samples all one size (approximately a 2) therefore since they want the models at least 5'9" in order to be seen well, a size two means they have to be very very thin.
Personally if the public would reject these designers that use unhealthy models it might change. But how many of use really go to the runway shows etc. The rich and famous are the ones sitting in those seats and you can see they are the ones with most of the problems (at least according to the media).
Personally I would like to see the stuff on people who are closer to my size so that I have some kind of idea if it might look good on me. Maybe then I might spend those ridiculous prices.
Until the general public starts putting pressure on those to make changes, it won't. Stand up for what you believe in, boycott those designers that don't care about their models health.

Danielle,
Good Morning sweety. The film industry found that the thinner women were better captured on the screen. Pixels and imaging seemed to add weight as it were to performers. Thus the war on slim and trim. Models are also in the eye of the camera, it`s their livelyhood. So naturally they want to be captured on the film as seductively and slim as possible. It`s an image the world has pursued for so long I don`t think they beleive larger women exist any more. However afew of us apparently do recognize the fact that valuptuous women are just as sexy and appealing. Afew are trying to get the word out, such as Cursty Allen or whatever her name is and others. I applaud them and support their efforts. The slimness you mentioned is just another example of something else taken to another bizzare extreme. I like slim don`t get me wrong but I also like and appreciate a person who is larger. It`s all about balance to me.
Take care my dear.
Jim

I don't know WHY models have to be so thin, but as a guy I can say I find it terribly unattractive when a model looks like a stick insect. In fact, most models don't look good at all, because they all look alike!

they think that the clothes flow better on them 4 some reason. I don't know why cause they look sick to me. I think they are starting to come outta that a little more now. That was the best move they ever made cause I think clothes look better on you if you got a little bit of meat! Hope i answered your question just a little bit! Have a good day!

They say that the clothes look better on a skeleton frame. . .
Personally, I don't think so. I think it is just an excuse to
see who can purge and blow the most chunks per day.
Plus, with all of the drugs they do. . .that really does away with any sort of appetite

Because clothes look better on them... like what other people said.
I think they look good. I used to be a double 0 myself 8 months ago before my family made me gain weight. Now I am a 6 and I look horrible. I would kill to be super unhealthily skinny again. I loved looking like that. Now.. I can not stand to go places and what not.

Who is saying that models need to be that thin? Aren't you paying attention? They're being banned from the runways.

it's a social standard controlled mainly by the media and it keeps getting worse. this society also has these crazy health issues but that's also due to the unhealthy stuff we feed ourselves.
