LIMEWIRE is full of viruses etc...
The best one to get is E-Mule. I've had it for sometime now and it still works great for me. I used to have LIMEWIRE and BEARSHARE. Both of them totally messed up my computer. I have to get rid of them and reload my WINDOWS XP.

If you are using Windows XP there is a built in firewall that may be blocking your limewire access to the internet.

Get into your network properties and verify that all settings are okay.

Use the link below for reference if you use Windows XP Service Pack 2

Hope this solves your issue.

Limewire is still free. You have to do this:

1. Go to Start>Control Panel in Windows and double click on Windows Firewall (Check to see if it is on, if it is go to next step).

2. You need to click on the "Exceptions" tab up top in Windows Firewall.

3. Limewire should be in that list of programs. Make sure that it is checked to allow.

4. Click ok.

5. If you have a router, you will need to open up your internet browser and type the IP address of the router. (Usually 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1) and hit enter.

6. You should be taken to the router configuration page for your router. In there you will also have to see if Limewire is in your list of exceptions.

I don't remember off the top of my head, but I do believe that Limewire will tell you the ports you need to open in the options. If not I'm sure a few seconds on Google can give you the answer.

Enjoy!
