I have a gas dryer and have not been able to get it to work. The little ignitor comes on but after five minutes, very little heat. Should I give it more time to heat up or what?

Are you getting a flame in the burn tube? If not try replacing the thermocouple. It is a safety device that blocks the flow of gas until it senses enough heat from the igniter to light the gas. If you are getting a flame but no heat in the dryer, check the duct work for clogs. Also check the vent for any obstructions.

The ignitor can come on, but that has to be read by another part, when that is satisfied it turns on the gas valve. When you go to ask for the part you need to ask for the part that reads the ignitor. Some of them look like a little mirror on one side of the ignitor.

i'm just guessing here...got gas, valve turned on? ignitor should glow orange hot or gas wont pass. if ignitor ok, theres a transformer which relays ignitor ok to activate gas flow. transformer may be bad or gas valve stuck? good luck.
maybe check exhaust hose for clogging=might be a safety feature.
