I have no experience with Dell but if you are considering purchasing a PC online I would reccommend www.novatech.co.uk their prices are competitive and they have a helpful help line!

As for PC World they may be more expensive and not the most helpful people in the world but you can deal with a human being face to face. My family have had numerous problems with PC World before and it turned into quite a sport seeing what freebies we could talk out of them but this was 5 or 6 years ago now. One piece of advice with PC World though steer well clear of Advent computers.

Dell only use Dell authorised products so you could limited on choice and prices whereas both Novatech and PC World stock all sorts of different products from different brands.

Ask friends and family for their experiences too!

Dell

They are both useless.

PC World is staffed by spotty teenagers who know nothing about what they are selling. What they DO know is how to flog you a warranty and insurance which costs a fortune and is useless when you come to make a claim. They are also horrendously expensive.

Dell are not quite as bad but their customer service is generally poor and unless you pay extra for the Next day collect and return warranty, you will be without your computer for ages whilst it is sent away and repaired ahould it go wrong. Also, Dell machines are very much built to a cost which means they will use cheap, nasty compnents that they buy in huge quantities and which are far more likely to go faulty.

You are much better off using a small, independant retailer who will know what they are talking about and will be able to give you decent service and after sales support. It may cost more in the short term but in the long term will be well worth it.

I would try Dell, only because I got mine from pc world and have been let down continually, we had the same problem with my daughters from pc world too, it was broke for 4 weeks despite us having a monthly cover plan and despite me explaining she was doing school homework on it. Will dell you may have the hastle of sending it back by post but i'm sure it will be a loy quicker than 4 weeks!

In my experience Dell.
With Dell you're less likely to have a problem anyway.
When I had a problem the replaced the part, no questions asked in 48 hours. Silver guarantee which covers you for 3 years.
