I think it´s because they think they OWN the continent; and they give a SH*T about other people, not just in America...

USA stands for the United States of America. we have 50 states not countries. North America is made up of Canada, the United States and Mexico. Oh and by the way ther are some "Americans" that do give a sh** about others.

usa is the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. Hence Americans =).
-and we do care about other countries, if we didnt, this war would be pointless. Right now its focused on building back up what sadaam Destroyed and giving citizens of the middle east a chance to be free.

Being an "American", I think you generalize way too much, but that wasn't your question was it? Perhaps the answer is something a little less sinister than you suggested. Maybe its' that..
"United Statesians" isn't very catchy, and
"North Americans" would still offend the Canadians, and
"USAians" has too many vowels
I suspect if a group of asian countries united to form a new nation that they named... just for giggles.. "The United States of Asia"... they'd probably call themselves (gasp!) "ASIANS" for short!!
Then a bunch of clever Horacio's would agonize over why...

Because we're the United States of America, located in North America.
We're fricken Americans. I don't hear any Canadians out there saying they are Canadian-American unless they have dual citizenship. Does that make them anti-North America? No. It just means they're Canadian. Where is the problem?

This is the United States of America - hence Americans.
The Mexicans can call themselves South Americans and the Canadians North Americans if they want...we don't care.

America is a way of life! America is a set of beliefs..almost a religion! It doesn't matter what color you are, your ethnicity...being American is Being American! If your in this country legally...you American. If not..then you Mexican, or what ever ethnicity you smuggled yourself from. Point- American is a way of life. Not ethnicity. And we do own America. (America....American...kind of a connection there) As for Mexico and Canada....what y'all do is none of our concern...just don't hop any fences.

maybe they are trying to disguise the fact that they are from the United states, so they call themselves Americans
