This torture bill is morally shameful and a disgrace. It shows there is no limit to how low Republicans will go to get November election talking points - while eliminating our constitutionally protected fundamental protections, ( a little thing call habeas corpus - remember it ? ) . Our torture of Iraqi prisoners may be well increasing the insurgency. The more we are hated the
more our forces are attacked.

Q Burt: this is what is in the bill : Those subject to commission trials would be any person "who has engaged in hostilities or who has purposefully and materially supported hostilities against the United States or its co-belligerents." This broad defination can be used against American citizens-
and we no longer have habeas corpus laws to protect us - we can't challenge false detentions..and can you say America has never arrested an innocent person ?

Q Burt: If you take your oath seriously, then you would be concerned about our giving broad power to the executive branch to eliminate habeas corpus rights. This abuse of authority can be applied to any American citizen - I support the constitution against All enemies foreign and DOMESTIC too. Lets have a separation between church and state and enforcement of the 5th and 6th amendment while we are at it.
Hopefull Bush will loose enough support during the midterms so we can start to unravel some of the things he, his neocon handlers and cowardly legislators have done. I think you will find your self in an increasingly marginalized minority over time. If Bush prevails, the terrorists will have won.

Clearly yes to cover the Bush crimes to the Geneva Convention rules. Bush had to make up his own, with his one sided Congress, and Dictatorship before November Elections came. Enough said!!!

Your Ignorant.

I am not going beyond that. If you don't know what is in that bill, I am not telling you. Continue to live your life of ignorance if it suit's you.

I prefer to my life of reality.

Edit ---

Show me the word Torture in that bill. I know the requisites, and I agree with them.

I seem to remember an oath I took - ""I do solemnly swear that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against ALL enemies, foreign and DOMESTIC"

Just deal

The US has already shown a disregard for international laws and regulations, many of which they helped establish in the first place (ironically). I'd imagine this bill, if passed, would be challenged in the courts by the legal community.

Go to civics classes where they teach that the Constitution only applies to US citizens, then get back to us with a question that has a valid argument.

No. And it's not TORTURE, it's simply redefining the Geneva Convention regarding terrorists. It should be redefined. The Geneva Convention shouldn't protect them.
